I am quite sure that those of you who grew up as a kid in the 1980s would have heard of the Legend of Zelda, which happens to be one of the best video games created to date – never mind that one should not take the 8-bit graphics into consideration against today’s Full HD resolution. How does one turn an infallible classic into a legend? Certainly this is one “wheel” that needs no reinvention, where the 8-bit game has now been remade as a first-person game for the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset.
Known as ZeldaVR, I suppose you can paraphrase a line from “A Tale of Two Cities”, where it is the best of remakes and the worst of remakes. Ubiquitron, the game’s developer, mentioned that the “gameplay and artwork are virtually identical to the original NES classic.” There is one major difference, however, which is, you will play from a first person perspective instead of a top down one. This ought to change the dynamics somewhat, and one might just have to get reoriented all over again.
At this point in time, the game remains as a beta version, so there is only one dungeon and overworld to explore, but the folks over at Ubiquitron intend to release the completed remake in the following month – without asking for a single penny in return, now how about that?
