In August last year, the mantle of the world’s thinnest smartphone fell upon the Vivo X3, which is also another China-based handset. I guess it is time for the Vivo X3 to abdicate its throne, as there is a new player in town – the Gionee Elife S5.5. Why S5.5? Well, the answer is pretty simple – it clearly points to the thickness of the smartphone, which is stunningly slim at just 5.5mm. That would mean the Gionee Elife S5.5 has shaved off 0.25mm from the existing champion, the Vivo X3, and hence, will take over this coveted position.
The Gionee Elife S5.5 might be super slim, so does that mean it does not have any kind of high powered parts underneath the hood due to the lack of space? Well, it is not going to be the slowest handset in town, but neither is it going to duke it out with the best of the flagships out there. A 5” touchscreen display, a quad-core 1.7GHz processor, 2GB RAM, a 13MP rear camera and a 5MP shooter in front, the slew of standard issue connectivity options like Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, as well as a 2,300 mAh battery. That is not too shabby actually considering the limited amount of physical space within the Gionee Elife S5.5 itself, all the while running on Gionee’s Amigo operating system that is based on the Android platform.
