Galaxy S5 Priced In UK And Spain, Not As Cheap As We Thought

Before the announcement of the Samsung Galaxy S5, there were rumors surrounding the handset with regards to its price, suggesting that the handset could be priced cheaper than its predecessor and the competition.

Given that hardware on most of the flagship phones we’ve seen at MWC 2014 is more or less the same, we guess price is one way of attracting customers to your product apart from differentiating features. Well it seems that either retailers did not get the memo or that the rumors were wrong, because it looks like the Galaxy S5 has been priced and it does not sound cheap at all.

Over in the UK, retailer Clove has put the Galaxy S5 handset up for pre-order where the device is retailing for £599.99 (around $1,000 after conversion) after taxes. This is for the 16GB model so we’d hate to think how much the 32GB model could cost.

Amazon Spain has also listed the handset where it is priced at a whopping €730 which also comes to around £600. These a prices that are typically used for high-end flagship devices and if it weren’t for the rumors that the Galaxy S5 could be priced lower than the competition, we guess this is to be expected.

However there is always the off-chance that Amazon Spain and Clove are simply basing this on last year’s numbers and it is being used as a placeholder. We have seen Amazon conduct refunds in the past or given back the difference on products that turned out to be cheaper, so we don’t see why they can’t do this here as well, assuming of course the rumors are true.

Once again these are typical flagship prices but what do you guys think? If there weren’t any rumors about the Galaxy S5 being priced cheaper, is this a price you would be happy to pay? Or would you have been more than happy to pay full price anyway?
