Canon Is Not A Fan Of Retro Designed Cameras

As you might have realized, nowadays there seems to be a trend in which camera manufacturers have designed their products to look retro (like Olympus, Fujifilm, and Panasonic, just to name a few), like how cameras would have looked like back in the day. This is not a bad thing as it does offer up a change of pace from the usual camera designs, but if there is one camera manufacturer who has opted not to follow the trend, it would be Canon. In fact Canon’s disdain for the design of such cameras has become pretty apparent when the company recently published a PDF titled, “Story of the PowerShot G1 X Mark II Development”.

In case the title wasn’t obvious, the PDF basically describes how Canon came about designing the look of the company’s latest camera, the Canon PowerShot G1 X Mark II. However within the brochure, there was one paragraph that was spotted by the.me that stood out from the rest. “Currently there is a trend towards designing premium compact cameras like classic cameras. However, Canon has kept its distance from this trend. As a result, the design is not pretentious, and it also does not look like a so-called compact camera, and achieves a great balance between traditional and new.” Based on this paragraph, it seems that Canon is not overly fond of such designs meaning that if you were hoping for a retro-looking Canon camera in the future, your best bet would be a second-hand camera shop.
