Snapchat, the service that lets people send self-destructing photos and videos, has become very popular over the past year and a half. Sure it has seen its fair share of ups and downs, such as the security breach that compromised phone numbers and usernames of more than 4.6 million users, but it has reportedly peaked the interest for two behemoths. Google and Facebook were both reportedly trying to acquire the company, offering as much as $4 billion, both of them were said to have been turned down. As Snapchat continues to grow, it hasn’t said if it has any plans of bringing the service over to desktop computers. If you’ve been wondering about the possibility of being able to use Snapchat on a Mac, then you’re in luck. Snapped is a new app that lets you do just that.
Developed by two university students behind ThnkDev, the app is compatible with OS X 10.9 Mavericks and is going to be released in the Mac App Store soon. The feature set is pretty simple, and so is the user experience, according to Mashable which took the app for a test run. You simply need to sign into Snapchat using your credentials, choose the time you want the snap to be displayed at the recipient’s end and click send. Mac’s front camera is used to take snaps, you will also have the ability to upload pictures from the onboard storage. The app also gives access to sent messages, items in the inbox, friends list as well as the ability to send messages straight from the app. In the future, Snapped will also come with the ability to add text and filters to snaps. The app is going to be available soon as a free download.
