There might not be a great sense of community on music discovery website Last.fm, but it does what it set out to do very well. Spotify today announced that it has partnered up with this music recommendation service to bring on-demand playback on Last.fm. Users will now be able to play any song that’s recommended by Last.fm on the service’s website, provided that its available in Spotify’s catalog. Using their Spotify account, users can play its entire catalog right on Last.fm.

The music will be played through Spotify, but controls will appear on the bottom on Last.fm, allowing users to browse around the site without having to leave it or go around chasing different tabs. The latest integration goes far beyond the previous music listening options provided by the service, Last.fm only lists links to popular streaming services such as Rdio, Deezer as well as Spotify. This level of integration effectively bakes in Spotify’s entire catalog on Last.fm. In order to use this new integration, users have to sign up for a Spotify membership. They can also sync Last.fm profiles with existing free or premium Spotify accounts. This gives them access to over 700 million tracks, 60 million artists and a Spotify player to listen to their favorite tunes.
