Cyanogen is looking to make a name for itself in the mainstream Android smartphone, after ruling the custom ROMs scene for years. The team makes some of the most widely used custom Android ROMs, and while it continues to do that, it has also teamed up with Oppo to release the first ever Google CTS certified CyanogenMod phone. Its not stopping there, it has teamed up with startup mobile manufacturer OnePlus, headed by an ex-Oppo VP, to develop a smartphone that’s built for CyanogenMod from the ground up. The startup announced today that the international release of its first smartphone, OnePlus One, takes place in the second quarter of 2014.
At first it had only been rumored that the smartphone will possibly be released around this time, now we have official word from the company itself. When it first revealed the OnePlus One moniker, it also said that the device will be “more attractive than just about any phone on the market,” with the exception of the iPhone. So far the folks at OnePlus, or Cyanogen for that matter, have given no details about the design and hardware specifications of this smartphone. Today it showed up the logo for the smartphone, and that’s just about it. There still no word on the pricing, and it is not known which key markets the OnePlus One will be launched in first.
