In June last year, a U.K. court did rule that Microsoft’s SkyDrive name had infringed on a BSkyB trademark. It did seem rather likely at the beginning that Microsoft will make an appeal against that decision, but both companies decided to hold a pow wow and announced a settlement in July instead, which would see Microsoft change the SkyDrive name eventually. Since Microsoft’s recent reorganization efforts also went with the new “One Microsoft” strategy, it makes perfect common sense for this latest rebranding to point toward OneDrive.
Ryan Gavin, Microsoft’s general manager for consumer apps and services, shared, “We believe the new OneDrive name conveys the value we can deliver for you and best represents our vision for the future.” What do you think of that – do you agree?
