JiaYu F1 Smartphone Costs Just $49

Not all smartphones are created equal, which is why the price for each smartphone differs – and greatly, too, depending on which end of the spectrum that you are looking from. Surely we have heard of smartphones that cost $49, but more often than not, these tend to arrive with a contract of sorts? Well, how about this $49 smartphone known as the JiaYu F1 which will not be accompanied by any long term contracts. Yes sir, for just $49 a pop, you will end up with a SIM-free device, unlocked and ready to go right from the start.

The big question that is probably ringing through many of our minds right now would be this – at that price point, just what kind of hardware is it going to come with? Will it deliver sub-par performance? Apparently not, as the JiaYu F1 will arrive with dual SIM capability, support for GSM and TD-SCDMA 3G networks, not to mention a WCDMA-based 3G version that is currently being worked upon so that it can be sold outside of China in international markets. A 4” 480×800 touchscreen display will be accompanied by a 5MP shooter at the back, a front-facing VGA camera, a dual-core 1.3GHz MediaTek MT6572 processor, 512MB RAM, 4GB of internal memory, a microSD memory card slot, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, GPS support, an FM radio, and a 2,400 mAh battery. The entire shebang will run on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. I do wonder whether the F1 bit in the name intends to denote some sense of speed…
