Garmin makes a portable head-up display as well for displaying navigation information, simply called HUD. The company has announced the HUD+ which not only puts essential information in the driver’s line of sight, but also hooks up with a companion app to further enhance the user experience.
The Garmin HUD+ projects directions onto a transparent film on the windshield, a reflector lens can also be used for this purporse. Navigation information is pulled in from a smartphone, connected to HUD+ via Bluetooth, which is running the free Garmin HUD navigation app that’s available for download in the App Store, Google Play Store and the Windows Phone Store. Since information is displayed within the driver’s line of sight and they can view it with a single glance, portable HUDs like the Garmin HUD+ can significantly reduce driver distraction. The app may be free but HUD+ is not, its suggested retail price is $179.99.
