[CES 2014] Archos from France is still hanging tough in the extremely competitive smartphone market, and I clearly remember them for churning out some decent portable media players in the days before the iPod overtook all. Well, Archos also happened to be one of the first Android tablet manufacturers in the world, and they have now graced CES 2014 with a couple of smartphones from their Helium range. You will find that neither of these will be all hot air, where the Helium smartphones would make up part of Archos’ high end offerings.
First of all, the Archos 50 Helium 4G will come with a 5” 720p HD IPS touchscreen display, an 8MP BSI rear camera with LED flash and 1080p Full HD video recording, a 2MP front camera, a quad-core 1.4GHz Qualcomm processor, 1GB RAM, 8GB of internal memory, a microSD memory card slot, 4G LTE, HSPA, Bluetooth 3.0, Wi-Fi, GPS, and a 2,000 mAh battery with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean in tow.
As for the Archos 45 Helium 4G, this will have a slightly smaller display at a 4.5” 854×480 IPS touchscreen, a 5MP rear camera with LED flash and 1080p Full HD video recording, a VGA front camera, a quad-core 1.4GHz Qualcomm processor, 1GB RAM, 4GB of internal memory, a microSD memory card slot, 4G LTE, HSPA, Bluetooth 3.0, Wi-Fi, GPS, and a 1,700 mAh battery with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean as the mobile operating system of choice. The Archos 50 Helium 4G and Archos 45 Helium 4G will retail for €239.99 and €199.99, respectively. [Press Release]
