The hype around wearable devices has considerably increased in 2013, and we saw quite a few products being released this year which catered to consumers who are more than willing to start using these devices. Apart from a few smartwatches, we also saw Google ramp up the production of its smart glasses, the Google Glass. With the wearable trend catching on, and more exciting things bound to come in 2014, its about time that the general public was made aware of the truly praiseworthy creations that otherwise might not have gained much popularity. The first app review website for these devices today released the results of the First Wearable App Awards.
The folks at Wearable App Review has reviewed over 150 apps on eight wearable devices so far in 2013, devices include Google Glass, smartwatches from Samsung, Sony and Pebble, the Jawbone UP, Fitbit Flex, LUMOback and Misfit Shine. Word Lens, an augmented reality translation app for Google Glass, ranks first, trailed by Music Boss for Pebble smartwatch in second place. The app lets users control any Android music app through their Pebble. Watch Styler for Samsung Galaxy Gear came in third, it lets users design and create their own watches for the device. Watcher – Smartphone Camera for the Sony Smartwatch is next, it provides remote access to the smartphone’s camera through the Sony Smartwatch. Filling up the last three spots are the IFTTT and MapMyRun apps for Jawbone and Fitbit respectively.
