AT&T today earned some serious bragging rights, it has teamed up with Rogers of Canada to become the first major U.S. carrier to offer international 4G LTE data roaming. AT&T subscribers that find themselves in Canada will now be able to enjoy data roaming on 4G LTE speeds. Data will obviously run through Rogers’ LTE network in the country, which AT&T describers as being the fastest in Canada. The company claims that Rogers LTE network reaches almost 70 percent of all Canadians and that it continues to expand.
Subscribers won’t have to upgrade to another smartphone, AT&T says that its existing LTE compatible smartphones will be able to take advantage of this new service. However, there will be a price to pay for international data roaming at 4G LTE speeds. 120MB for $30 per month, 300MB for $60 per month and 800MB for $120 per month. Unless you plan on streaming video and music or downloading large files, these data packages should last long enough. However they won’t last long if you do data intensive tasks, which would result in you running up quite a tab. The best option would obviously be to get a SIM from a local carrier whenever you’re visiting Canada, but if 4G LTE is absolutely necessary, then AT&T is the way to go.
