Verizon Explains Nexus 7’s LTE Certification Hold-Up

As we’re sure you guys are aware of, the Google Nexus 7 can be used with Verizon’s LTE network, making it a relatively affordable tablet with LTE connectivity, undoubtedly helping its appeal to customers. Unfortunately for Verizon customers, it seems that they are unable to get LTE to work on their tablets, with Verizon apparently unwilling to activate the tablet for LTE connectivity for customers who bought it through the Google Play store despite the tablet being advertised that it works on Verizon’s LTE network.

According to Verizon, it seems that this is not their fault, but rather the fault lies with both Google and ASUS, who told Verizon to wait for them to sort it out. It seems that Google was too focused on releasing Android 4.4 KitKat and thus neglected to address the “systems issue” that was apparently plaguing the device. Instead, Google and ASUS told Verizon to wait until the update had been rolled out to the tablet before Verizon was allowed to provided certification for the device to be used on its network.

Obviously there’s no telling how long it will be until Android 4.4 KitKat makes its way onto the Nexus 7, but apparently if one were to insert an existing Verizon LTE SIM into the Nexus 7, it should have no problems hooking onto Verizon’s LTE network. That might be a temporary solution until the update has been released, although a recent tweet by @evleaks would suggest that the wait might not be as long as we might think.
