Generally speaking, movies that were made being based off a video game rarely made it big on the silver screen for one reason or another. Perhaps it is the lack of a decent plot, although some folks might say that the better video games out there have a really good plot. The thing is, the mechanics of a movie and a video game work very differently, so it would be nice to see some “cross cultural” success once in a while. We have now received word that Warner Bros. is working to bring Temple Run to the big screen, after roping in Harry Potter producer David Heyman onboard to produce.
Here is a little background for those who are not quite sure what Temple Run is all about – this is a 2011 game that was developed and published by Imangi Studios, where it also resulted in a sequel that was released earlier this year, in addition to a slew of other spin-offs. The game itself is normally played on mobile devices and has since become quite a best seller. The story for the movie, should it pan out, would concentrate on an explorer who has already snagged an idol from a temple, and is being hunted down by demonic forces instead of a normal bunch of ape-like creatures in the game. It would be interesting to see how this Doom meets Indiana Jones set up is going to work.
