BlackBerry has been in the news quite a lot recently, though only because it was in a strategic review period and on the verge of being taken private. That didn’t happen though, so speculation related to that has finally died down. Its been a while since we’ve heard any rumors related to an upcoming BlackBerry device, the Porsche Design P’9982 being an exception, and today purported images of the previously rumored BlackBerry C-Series smartphone have surfaced online.
The C-Series devices are apparently entry level smartphones, one is expected to have a full QWERTY keyboard and the other is likely going to be full touch. There’s no concrete word on the specifications as yet, though they’re rumored to come with Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processors, 4.2 – 4.5 inch 720p displays, and 5 megapixel rear cameras. Information about pricing and availability is scarce at this point in time. The C-Series smartphones will essentially be low-end variants of the Z10 and the Q10, which were released earlier this year. These devices will presumably be focused towards emerging markets, where the company previously used to be strong, but has been losing market share in recent months. BlackBerry CEO John Chen has said that the company is going to review its device strategy, so it remains to be seen if the C-Series is retained or discarded in favor of another lineup.
