Nokia Bringing Bluetooth 4.0 LE To Their Devices In Upcoming Lumia Black Update
When Apple introduced the iPhone 4S, they brought along the Bluetooth 4.0 LE technology. Essentially this was Bluetooth but used less energy than its predecessor, making it ideal for accessories. In fact one of the criticisms Nike had about Android devices in general is that they had yet to adopt Bluetooth 4.0 LE across the board, hence the lack of FuelBand support for the platform. Well the good news for Windows Phone owners is that as far as Nokia users are concerned, Nokia has confirmed that Bluetooth 4.0 LE will be coming to its entire Lumia lineup in an upcoming firmware update that will come with recently announced Lumia 1520.
This was confirmed in an FAQ where it was asked if and when Bluetooth 4.0 would be arriving for Nokia devices. According to Nokia, “It is already available for 520, 620, 625, and 720 with Amber. With Lumia Black software update, Bluetooth LE will be enabled across the full WP8 Lumia range.” No word on when the Lumia Black update will hit all Lumia devices, but in the meantime we guess this is something worth looking forward to nonetheless. Will this wide adoption of Bluetooth 4.0 LE see Nike bring its FuelBand SE app onto Windows Phone devices?
