Nexus 5’s Launcher Will Be Exclusive To The Nexus 5

nexus-5-review--020Google’s recently launched Nexus 5 is a Nexus handset in the sense that it will come bundled with a stock Android 4.4 KitKat experience, complete with a UI that will be a stock UI that does away with the glitz and glamor that is typical of Android OEMs trying to make their mark. That being said, the UI of the Nexus 5 is pretty slick and clean, something we can appreciate, along with some subtle features such as making the notification and button bars translucent that helps bring the overall look together. Unfortunately if you were hoping for a similar experience on your Nexus device, like the Nexus 4, once Android 4.4 KitKat has been released, well you’re out of luck.

According to Google, it seems that some features of the Nexus 5 will remain exclusively to the Nexus 5, such as its launcher. One could be forgiven if they thought that the same experience would be brought to their Nexus device, after all wasn’t that the point of having a Nexus phone to begin with? A shared experience of running stock Android? Well apparently the reason behind this move is because Google wants to see how the public reacts to the launcher before deciding if it good enough or in demand enough to bring it onto other devices. Based on this we can only assume that Google may or may not bring the launcher to other Nexus devices in the future, but for now it looks like it will be a Nexus 5 exclusive.
