There’s no doubt music-streaming services have been popping up at an elevated rate over the past couple of years. We recently saw Nokia announced they’re getting into the world of streaming music with their Nokia MixRadio application, and you can expect yet another service to launched some time next year.
Deezer announced they’ll be launching in the U.S. some time in 2014 as they currently have a total of five million paying subscribers across 80 countries worldwide. To compare, Spotify at last check has over six million paying subscribers, so Deezer launching in the U.S. could certainly push it over the top to beat out Spotify and other competing services.
The reason why it took so long for Deezer to launch in the U.S. is due to the depth of competition from similar services, which will likely cause them to form a strategic partnership here in the states. U.S. networks like Verizon and AT&T would be considered good partnerships, although Deezer would also be likely to look to partnering with a company outside that wasn’t a U.S. carrier.
Would you be interested in another streaming-music service in the U.S.? Remember, Deezer already has five million paying customers, so maybe they have something competing services like Spotify doesn’t have.
