Huawei President Confirms Octa-core Ascend P6S
Most phones these days are of the quad-core variety, and are usually running either Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 800 chipset, NVIDIA’s Tegra 4, or Samsung’s Exynos 5-series (these are usually exclusive for Samsung’s products). However it seems that we might be able to look forward to an octa-core phone from Huawei in the near future, as it was recently confirmed by the company’s president himself. According to Huawei President, Xu Xin Quan, he has recently confirmed that the Ascend P6 will be getting a successor in the form of the Ascend P6S that will feature a true octa-core processor which will be powered by MediaTek.
As it stands Samsung has their own octa-core chipset, but instead of all eight cores used at once, Samsung instead relies on the big.LITTLE technology which essentially swaps between 2 sets of four cores, with one set being a less powerful version that is used to accomplish less demanding tasks, while the more powerful set will be used when more power is needed. No word on pricing or availability of the Huawei Ascend P6S, but with CES 2014 and MWC 2014 taking place early next year, perhaps we will find out more then.
