Android Tablets Overtake iPad In Revenue For Q3 2013

nexus-7-2-review--015Apple’s iPad has long dominated the tablet scene, but with Android tablets like the Nexus 7 and Amazon Kindle Fire HDX that are not only priced a lot less than Apple’s offerings, but come with decent specs, we guess it was only a matter of time before customers decided that they’d rather spend less and according to the latest figures, it shows. According to Morgan Stanley analyst, Katy Huberty, her research note indicates that for the first time ever, Android tablets managed to nab 46.2% of tablet revenue for Q3 2013, beating out Apple’s revenue share of 45.6%.

However Huberty does point out that these numbers might change and that Android’s dominance could be short-lived. After all, the iPad Air and the iPad mini with Retina display were recently announced and released, so if all goes well, we could be seeing different numbers come Q4 2013, or maybe even Q1 2014 where there is a chance that Apple could regain back a larger slice of its revenue pie. What do you guys think? Is Android’s win a short-term one, or do you think that this trend will continue and that we will see Android overtaking Apple like they are doing with smartphones?
