For starters the sensor will feature an anti-shake function that will allow the photographer to correct an angular error of up to 1.5 degrees, which is apparently more than double that of regular cameras. This should, on paper, translate to less blurry photos. The sensor will also allow for low-light photography by boosting its brightness by up to eight times. To top it all off, the new sensor is small enough that it should fit into most smartphones today, meaning that come 2014, manufacturers who plan to utilize the sensor should be able to fit it into their products without having to compromise on its thickness.
As it stands Samsung is sampling the sensor and plans to begin mass production come 2014, although we have to wonder if this new sensor will make its way into the new Samsung Galaxy S5.
