We know that Nintendo has a couple of games that they are remaking in HD, such as The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD and while we expect Nintendo to announce more HD remakes in the future, this is not the company’s main focus. Speaking to a panel of reports, Nintendo’s chief game designer, Shigeru Miyamoto, stated that Nintendo is more interested in creating new games for their Wii U console rather than simply remaking older titles in HD. When asked if there is a chance that Nintendo will remake older games, Miyamoto replied by saying, “That’s certainly possible, but most of our developers are working on new games […] We like to have them working on new stuff. HD remakes might be a good project for development partners, so that’s something I hope we can introduce in the future.”
As it stands the Nintendo Wii U isn’t exactly the hottest selling console at the moment, and with consoles like the upcoming Xbox One by Microsoft and the PlayStation 4 by Sony, if anything the competition just got stiffer. Given that Nintendo has many popular titles in their portfolio, some of which are old but classic, could remaking older games into HD be a better idea than making new ones? What do you guys think? Would you prefer to see more HD remakes from Nintendo or are you hoping for newer titles that could hit Mario-like status for this generation?
