LG Close To Inking Deal With Apple For iWatch Displays, Samsung To Sit This One Out [Rumor]

apple-iwatch-concept-2We have heard how Apple’s CEO, Tim Cook, has announced that the company has plans for new product categories for 2014, and what better category than wearable electronics such as the rumor iWatch, right? Well according to a new rumor reported by The Korea Herald, they cite an “expert” who claims that LG is close to inking a deal with Apple that will allow the South Korean company to supply Apple with OLEDs that will be used in Apple’s upcoming device. According to the anonymous source, “LG Display has been in talks over flexible organic light-emitting diode panels for quite a while and it looks like it will be sealing the deal with Apple.”

At the moment both LG and Samsung are some of the suppliers that Apple uses to provide them with displays for their Mac and iOS products, but interestingly enough the rumors claim that Samsung will not be taking part in Apple’s iWatch, but rather LG and Taiwan’s RiTDisplay are said to be possible candidates. The reason is not what you might think, which is that given Apple and Samsung’s legal history, you would think that Apple is not looking to give Samsung any business. Instead it seems that Samsung is not too keen on the prospect, especially since they are trying to market their own smartwatch in the form of the Galaxy Gear. In any case take it with a grain of salt for now, but if the rumors are to be believed, it certainly sounds like come 2014, we will be seeing the fabled iWatch make its debut.
