Jony Ive’s Mac Pro Product RED Could Fetch $40,000-$60,000 At Charity Auction
Apart from designing software and hardware at Apple, Sir Jony Ive has been pretty busy designing other gadgets too, such as earphones and cameras, although if you were looking for something a little more related to Apple that benefited charity at the same time, the new Mac Pro RED could be worth checking out. Pictured above is Apple’s upcoming Mac Pro computer which not only sports pretty radical design as far as computers are concerned, but also comes with a rather striking red finish. This is due to the computer being part of a Product RED charity fundraiser where the computer will be auctioned off by Sotheby’s who estimates that the device could fetch anywhere between $40,000-$60,000!
The Product RED Mac Pro is the result of a collaboration between Jony Ive and Marc Newson and apart from the difference in the paint job, it is unclear as to whether the hardware underneath the hood will differ from the regular black version of the Mac Pro. However just to give some perspective, the lowest-level Mac Pro will feature a 3.7 Ghz quad-core Intel Xeon E5 processor, dual AMD FirePro D300 GPUs, 12 GB of memory, and 256 GB of PCIe-based flash storage, so at the very least that’s what we might be able to expect, although forking out $40,000 for those specs does seem a little outrageous. What do you guys think? Do you prefer the black or Product RED version of the Mac Pro?
