We have heard the back and forth about how Instagram would be making its way onto Windows Phone, although last we heard, it was a big no. Well the good news is that for whatever reason that Instagram chose not to launch on Windows Phone, they have decided against that, with the company’s CEO, Kevin Systrom, announcing that the official Instagram app for Windows Phone devices will be making its way onto the platform in the coming weeks. This was revealed during Nokia’s Abu Dhabi event where several Nokia devices like the Lumia 2520 tablet and the Lumia 1520 phablet were revealed.
According to Systrom, “Our ultimate goal is to bring Instagram to everyone who wants to use it […] We’re looking forward to watching the Windows Phone community use Instagram to capture and share beautiful moments in the coming weeks.” No specific launch dates were mentioned but at least it’s a confirmation. As it stands Windows Phone owners have access to a bevy of third-party Instagram apps so we have to wonder what will happen to them once the official app is launched. It is possible that these third-party apps could offer up more features and functions than the official app that would keep it relevant, but we guess we will just have to wait and see.
