AT&T had claimed the long-awaited Amber update for the Nokia Lumia 820 and 920 was going to be released on October 10. We were wary about the news considering there was no official press release from either AT&T nor Nokia regarding the upcoming update, but it looks like the U.S. carrier stuck to their word as the Amber update is now available for you Nokia Lumia 820 and Lumia 920 owners to download.
Both Amber and Microsoft’s GDR2 update for Windows Phone should now be available for Lumia 820 and 920 owners. This update adds CalDAV and CardDAV support, which will eventually be required in order to sync Google services, such as Google Calendar and Gmail, with your Windows Phone. GDR2 will also add FM Radio support as well as a number of smaller tweaks, such as an improved Xbox Music interface, performance improvements for Skype and Internet Explorer and the ability to choose the default lens for the Camera application.
As for Nokia’s Amber update, it’ll bring an improved auto-focus and low-light for its Camera app, as well as adding the Smart Camera feature, which we got a taste of when we reviewed the Lumia 1020. A Glance feature is also being introduced with the Amber update, which allows users to use their device as a dim clock to be used at night as well as the ability to flip your phone over if you would like to silence all incoming calls.
