According to Kuo, he believes that Apple is trying to reserve the technology for the iPhone 5s for now, especially since production problems regarding the sensor is what’s making supply of the handset constrained at the moment. Kuo also states that the iPad 5 will feature a slightly more powerful A7X chipset which is a variation of the A7 chipset found in the iPhone 5s, while the iPad mini 2 will feature the same 64-bit A7 chip used in the iPhone 5s as well.
As it stands there is a lot of back and forth regarding whether a Retina iPad mini 2 will be announced this year. Some believe that manufacturing problems could cause the iPad mini 2 to be delayed, while some believe that the skipping of the Retina display is to prevent cannibalization of the larger iPad.
