3D Printed Pizza Shown Off At SXSW Eco And It Looks Delicious

Earlier this year, we published a story regarding NASA researching the possibility of creating 3D printed food, which immediately gave us visions of what a life living in a Back to the Future 2 world might be. If you were one of those skeptics who thought this would never happen, we’ve got some bad news for you. 3D pizza is here!

NASA funded mechanical engineer Anjan Contractor to help in his development of a food printer, which they hope can be used in the future to possibly feed astronauts during long space trips. Anjan showed off his first prototype of this 3D food printer, where he created a tiny pizza. The prototype device Anjan created uses powdered ingredients that can be kept fresh for years.

As you’ll see in the video above from a news segment on KXAN, the 3D printer is able to create the pizza by pouring tomato sauce and cheese on top of a layer of dough. A heated plate placed underneath the pizza dough is used in order to heat it up, thus making the crispy pizza crust that we’re all too familiar with. Hopefully it won’t be too long until we’re able to order a 3D printed version of our food, making us one step closer to never needing to interact with another human being ever.
