The Sony SmartWatch 2 was announced officially earlier this June, but this does not mean that there is no room for a new announcement – or rather, in the case of the Sony SmartWatch 2, a re-announcement. Of course, back in June, there was not that much information that accompanied the Sony SmartWatch 2’s release, as this time around, we do know that the Sony SmartWatch 2 will be hitting the market later this month with a price tag of €199 to keep it company. Hmmm, it looks like $199 or €199 is the new equivalent of the going price for smartwatches in the industry, so it remains to be seen whether Apple is going to take the same route or not if they actually roll out a smartwatch that they can call their own.
The Sony SmartWatch 2 will continue from where the original Sony SmartWatch left off, featuring a 1.6” display at 220 x 176 pixels, which will might be rather obvious to eagle eyed folks when you compare it against the Samsung Galaxy Gear’s 320 x 320 screen resolution. Since Sony’s display happens to be transflective, just like the one found in the Qualcomm Toq, it would mean a longer battery life is in order. It would lack speakers, a microphone or camera functionality, with the upside to that being an improved battery life. It remains to be seen when will the Sony SmartWatch 2 arrive in the US, and how much will it cost, but it is expected to arrive in Europe later this month.
