Samsung TVs Running On Tizen Could Arrive In 2014

Boo-Keun Yoon, the co-CEO of Samsung who also happens to hold the portfolio of being the head of the consumer electronics business, apparently mentioned to a German publication that the South Korean conglomerate has plans to churn out TVs in the future which will be powered by the open source Tizen mobile operating system. If that were to pan out, it would certainly be something worth checking out, especially when you consider that a Samsung Galaxy S4 with Tizen 3.0 as the operating system of choice has already been spotted in the wild.

Apparently, Samsung still has plans for Tizen despite being one of the major device manufacturers that use Google’s Android as the main operating system of choice. The presence of Tizen allegedly provides Samsung with more control over its own future, a safety net of sorts, if you will, so that it need not use Google as its crutch should things turn sour sometime down the road. Right now with Samsung’s TVs, the company already churns out their own software, but as they intend to integrate additional functionality into TVs and bring various devices together, a common operating system would make much more sense and an easier life to boot.
