A couple of years ago, the new Nest Learning Thermostat was announced to the whole world, bringing the definition of “smart” over to the world of thermostats. Well, Nest as a company has decided not to just sit back and fold their hands while watching the world go by, but rather, they have worked to deliver a new smoke detector that they claim will eventually be the “smartest” model of its kind in the world when it arrives. According to former Wall Street Journal reporter Jessica Lessin, this new smoke detector will be given the name “Protect”, and it will sport some rather nifty features such as motion sensors so that you are able to use a gesture like a wave to turn off an alarm, in addition to a carbon monoxide detector.
All right, so a smoke detector is far from being the sexiest device at home or at the office, but then again from the financial point of view, it makes plenty of sense since smoke detectors are required by law in all 50 states. Hence, if one is able to come up with a compelling case for a great smoke detector that does not break the bank, so much the better. No idea as to when the Protect smoke detector will go on sale though.
