Just how large is Instagram? After all, we see more and more selfies these days with the phenomenon of ever increasing quality in smartphone cameras, not to mention plenty of food porn that have graced our daily web bites each day. Earlier this year in February, we did mention that Instagram has topped the 100 million user mark, and then here we are slightly more than half a year after that which has seen Instagram officially report that their community has grown to “more than 150 million people capturing and sharing moments every month”.
That would translate to a growth of another 50 million users in the past six months or so, which happens to be growth despite being purchased by Facebook, the Terms of Service snafu, as well as the introduction of the likes of short video snippets on rival apps. Instagram COO Emily White did mention to the Wall Street Journal in passing that they will begin to sell ads over Instagram in the coming year – now talk about having the value of so many eyeballs! This is the one thing that many companies with an extremely popular user base find challenging – they will need to figure out a way to balance profitability alongside popularity. [Press Release]
