Blizzard Reaffirms That Diablo 3 For PC Will Not Have An Offline Version
One of the biggest issues Blizzard faced with Diablo 3 would be its always-on internet requirement. This is not a big deal for gamers who only want to play online, but for those who are just looking to enjoy the single player experience, this could be an issue in areas where internet is not so stable or readily available, or if there are server issues on Blizzard’s end which would not allow them to play the game, as evidenced at the launch of Diablo 3 where the game and its servers were plagued with connectivity problems. Now with Blizzard removing the Auction House from the game, we guess some players thought that perhaps Blizzard could also be looking to right some “wrongs” and perhaps even offer up an offline mode.
Unfortunately this is not the case as Blizzard has since released a statement to the folks at Rock, Paper, Shotgun, “We do not have plans to implement an offline mode. While the always-online requirement made the auction house possible, the auction house was never the driving factor in our decision to make the PC version of Diablo III require an Internet connection. The game was built from the ground up to take full advantage of Battle.net, which provides a number of important benefits, including persistent server-side character saves, a seamless PC multiplayer experience, cheat prevention, and Real ID and BattleTag social features.”
