Apple has finally broken its silence on consumer demand for its new smartphones. We’ve heard multiple rumors last week claiming that pre-orders for the iPhone 5C were weak, and that there wasn’t as much demand as previously anticipated. Apple hasn’t given out any specific figures yet, but it claims that demand for both the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C has been “incredible.” The company claims that it has currently sold out or has limited supply of certain iPhone 5S models in some retail stores. It is not known how many iPhone 5S units were in supply, there have been rumors of “grotesquely” low inventory.
On Apple’s online store, the availability of gold iPhone 5S has slipped to October. It was reported earlier today that the company has asked its suppliers to ramp up production of gold iPhone 5S units, apparently because it is seeing strong consumer interest in the particular model. Both new iPhones have gone on sale today in the ten initial launch markets, these markets also include China, Hong Kong and Japan for the first time ever. On the other hand, supply for the plastic iPhone 5C seems to be plentiful, but apparently the not-so-budget iPhone isn’t setting the world on fire across the pond.
