Acer Liquid S2 Phablet With 4K Video Capture Announced

The other day we reported on rumors that Acer could be working on a sequel to its phablet, the Liquid S1, which according to the reports suggested the Liquid S2 moniker. Well it turns out that the rumors were true and Acer has officially announced their latest phablet device, the Liquid S2.

The Liquid S2 as per the rumors is slightly bigger than the Liquid S1 and sports a 6” Full HD 1080p IPS display, versus the Liquid S1’s 5.7” display. The device will also be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset, a 13MP rear-facing camera with an LED ring flash, a 2MP front-facing camera, 2GB of RAM, a 3,300mAh battery, and 4G LTE connectivity on board.

It sounds like a pretty decent device and to top it off, Acer has announced that the Liquid S2 will be the first smartphone that will offer up 4K video recording capabilities. Previously it had been rumored that the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 3 will offer 4K video, but it looks like Acer has beaten them to the punch to claim the title of “world’s first”.

The Liquid S2 will run on Android but at the same time Acer has included several of their own features into the handset such as a “Quick First Shot” mode that allows for photo capture from the phone’s unlock screen, a “Favorite Mode” for your camera that will remember the various settings, “Smart Best Shot” that will take multiple shots and lets you choose the best one.

The Acer Liquid S2 is expected to be sold in Europe and at the moment there are no plans for it to be sold in the US. It will be made available towards the end of October but there is no word on how much it will cost.
