Surface Pro Workstation Setup Boasts A Quartet Of Monitors

Microsoft’s foray into the tablet market the second time around (remember the tablet PC that did not take off all those years ago?) is not exactly a happy experience, as both the Surface RT and the Surface Pro has yet to achieve the kind of crazy sales figures which would make an Apple executive proud. Still, this does not mean that Microsoft has given up the good fight, having rolled out firmware updates for the Surface RT and Surface Pro as recently as this week. For those of you who do not think much of the Surface Pro, perhaps seeing what a certain Keith Elder has done with his might change your mind.

Elder happens to be a Director of Software Engineering at Quicken Loans during the day, and his project concerning the Surface Pro is something worth checking out – this rather diminutive tablet has been hooked up to a quartet of generous sized PC monitors, by hooking up the Surface Pro’s USB 3.0 port to a $95 Plugable USB 3.0 docking station. This is followed up by connecting the right number of Plugable UGA-3000 video adapters to the docking station, and you have a four monitor workstation which is ready and raring to go, with the Surface Pro being the “brains” behind everything. This might take some work, and it definitely is no replacement for a gaming machine, but the possibility of it as a casual email/Facebook machine is very real.
