Google Play Edition Moto X Will Not Be Happening
It wasn’t too long ago that the Motorola Moto X smartphone was officially launched, although some were puzzled as to why the phone had mid-ranged specs considering that its rivals were putting out some pretty impressive hardware. We guess Motorola was trying to focus more on the experience and the features of the phone, rather than hardware specs that would have otherwise just looked good on paper. We have also heard rumors that a Google Play Edition could be arriving as well and could offer a more stock version of the phone, similar to the Google Editions of the Samsung Galaxy S4 and HTC One.
Well as it turns out that will not be the case. This is according to Guy Kawasaki who revealed that there will not be a Google Play Edition of the phone, and that even when it is available via the Google Play Store, it will be the same model that can be purchased from other retailers or carriers. The reason behind this is because the Moto X runs on an almost stock version of Android, and to make a Google Play Edition of the phone would be to strip the phone of its features that makes it unique, and would ultimately result in a mid-ranged device which there are plenty of alternatives out there. Seems to make sense, doesn’t it?
