The Ouya launched at retail this past June and the Android-powered console immediately sold out at both Amazon and GameStop. While the world was going nuts over the Ouya, a smaller Android-powered console, called GameStick, was announced to give those who are looking for their Android-gaming fix while on the go the ability to do so. GameStick recently went through a number of delays, but it’s now expected to start shipping in September.
The first wave of shipments will go to people who backed GameStick’s Kickstarter project, which we’re sure those backers will appreciate getting first dibs on their devices considering how long they’ve waited for them to actually come in. For those who didn’t back GameStick’s Kickstarter campaign, the device is available for pre-order at both GameStop and Amazon, who estimate the console will release on September 30. The GameStick’s actual release could be much sooner though as the September 30 release date is most likely a placeholder date, which can be updated once the GameStick folks announce when the device will be available at retail.
Considering how fast the Ouya sold out when it was first released, if you want the GameStick, we recommend you pre-order it now so you aren’t delayed any further from getting the device than you already have been.
