Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn Digital Sales Halted Due To Overwhelming Demand

On the 27^th of August 2013, Square Enix officially released their long-awaited MMORPG, Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, to the eager hands of gamers around the world. While we know that the Final Fantasy fanbase is huge, not to mention that A Realm Reborn is essentially a reboot of Square Enix’s failed attempts at a MMORPG from a few years ago, we did not expect the game to be so popular to the point where the company had to put a stop to digital sales while they sort out their server issues.

According to a post on Square Enix’s Facebook page, “Due to the overwhelmingly positive response to FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn, we are currently experiencing extremely long wait times for users to be able to log in and play. As a temporary measure, we will halt sales of FINAL FANTASY XIV: A REALM REBORN’s digital download products so we can accommodate all of those wishing to play. We are working to expand our server capacity in the coming days.”

This is not the first time we’ve heard that a company has halted sales of a product due to overwhelming demand. ArenaNet did something similar back in 2012 when they launched Guild Wars 2 and halted digital sales in a bid to make the experience of current gamers a more pleasant one. No word on when Square Enix will resume the sales of the digital copies of A Realm Reborn, but if you did not already purchase your digital copy of the game, the next best thing would be to find a physical copy if you want to play it.
