While games are meant to be played, rather than you watching someone else play it, it can sometimes be pretty entertaining watching professional gamers in their element where you can really see the game and its features being utilized to its full potential. The good news for StarCraft 2 fans is that if you were hoping to watch the StarCraft 2 World Championship Series but because you have a job or school which means you can’t glue yourself in front of your computer forever, Blizzard has announced a new Blizzard WCS App for iOS, which we assume could end up being a huge distraction at both school and work!
Basically what the app does, in case it wasn’t already obvious, is that it will keep you informed and up to date on the progress of the event. While Blizzard states that the app won’t make you a better player, there’s always something that can be learnt from watching the pros and see how they think and react. The app will allow viewers to stream the competition live, VODs of recent matches, stream video to a TV using Airplay, set reminders for upcoming matches, and even prevent “spoilers” of the results of matches for those who are really picky about these sorts of things. The app is free for download and will be compatible with iPhones, iPads, and iPod touch devices. No word on when an Android version will be released.
