With the recent wave of iPhone electrocutions that have been taking place as a result of using unofficial chargers, Apple has not only made a statement about the matter and discouraged the use of unofficial products, but have also launched a USB charger replacement program that would allow customers to get a discount off an official charger while trading in their old charger. The program was announced for both the US and China markets, but given that unofficial chargers can be found in regions all over the world, Apple has recently announced that the USB charger replacement program will be expanded to cover different markets.
These markets include Japan, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, and the United Kingdom. The program will be the same as the US and China where customers get a discount off an official charger, although depending on the region, the price may vary (not necessarily $10 across the board). While the program might have kicked off in China on the 9th of August, and will begin on the 16th of August in the US, there’s no word on when the program will take off in the regions mentioned above, but if you live in those countries and you’re a little concerned over your unofficial charger, we guess you can hop on over to your local Apple store to find out more info.
