There has been a lot of speculation about the iPhone 5C over the last couple of months. One of the reasons why Apple is believed to be launching a low cost iPhone this year is that it wants to gain a footing in the mid-range smartphone market which is largely dominated by Android smartphones from a plethora of manufacturers. Yesterday Morgan Stanley analyst Katy Huberty predicted that iPhone 5C will be priced at a sweet spot for the Chinese market, which would effectively make it a hit. Today UBS analysts Steven Milunovich and Peter Christiansen released a new report, they too believe that iPhone 5C will be particularly successful in China.

Huberty predicted that iPhone 5C will be priced around RMB 4,000, which will be acceptable to customers for a smartphone like the iPhone 5C. The UBS analysts believe that this device will be priced at $399. They predict that Apple’s negotiations with China Mobile will come to a mutually beneficial end. China Mobile recently said that it is keen to sell the iPhone. The analysts believe Apple will sell 17 million iPhones through the carrier, which is the largest mobile carrier in China. 70 percent of these 17 million iPhones are predicted to be the iPhone 5C. China Mobile currently does not officially sell the iPhone.
