Nowadays, you can head over to a number of online marketplaces and purchase nearly anything with a simple click of the mouse. One such marketplace that seems to have anything and everything is Amazon, and they’re adding another item to its long list of products: fine art.
Amazon announced that it has partnered with over 150 art galleries and dealers across the U.S. to sell fine art through a new portal the company has created, called Amazon Art. Users can browse over 40,000 works of fine art from a number of galleries including Paddle8 in New York, Catherine Person Gallery in Seattle and McLoughlin Gallery in San Francisco to name a few. In total, Amazon says its fine art portal will feature work from over 4,500 artists.
Whether or not Amazon Art is a success is yet to be seen, especially when you consider the company attempted to sell fine art back in 2000, which only lasted 16 months. We’re not entirely sure just how popular buying fine art on the Internet is, but it has to be a pretty big deal if Amazon is attempting to do so again after their previous attempt failed.
