We’ve covered a number of prosthetics over the past couple of years. Some stories we’ve covered featured things like 3D printing to help customize prosthetic limbs, while we’ve also seen a farmer in China build his own prosthetic arms. But this has to be one of the cooled prosthetic stories we’ve ever seen as Christina Stephens builds a working prosthetic leg out of LEGOs.
Christina Stephens is a practicing occupational therapist and clinical researcher that lost her foot after a crash injury. She came up with the idea of creating a LEGO prosthetic leg when someone in her research lab joked saying she should do it. So she went ahead and did just that, although we also suggests people don’t do this themselves for fear of falling and possibly injuring yourself. If you’ve ever stepped on a LEGO, then imagine that feeling all over your body if you happen to fall on them.
This is another one of those stories that make me feel completely inferior in my inability to do anything creative with LEGOs. I mean, Christina was able to create a friggin prosthetic leg out of LEGOs. What chance do I have to build a LEGO Death Star or anything else?
I give up.
