Another photo of what is thought to be the Verizon Moto X is making waves on the web as the anticipation continues to build around Google/Motorola’s next generation of smartphone, the first one completely designed under Google’s new management. Most people expect Motorola to continue to apply its focus on speed and battery life. We previously had talked about photos which showed both the front (Sprint version) and the back of the phone: a close up shot from behind, and one with Google’s Chairman Eric Schmidt holding a white version in his hand (which looks 10x better than the leaked black version by the way).
We can’t say with certainty that this is indeed the upcoming Moto X smartphone, but it is certainly new and so far, the leaks have been pretty good. That would hint to the fact that more people are getting involved in the project. When you start seeing executives using next-gen phones, it means that “engineering” got them some time ago, and have worked hard to make them stable enough. The overall size of this device would be consistent with previous leaks.
While Verizon has been a great partner for Motorola in recent years, it is said that the company will now deliver its next-gen smartphone to all four major US carriers, hopefully at the same time. This is certainly necessary since it’s impossible to sustain this kind of business with a much broader carrier approach. Samsung’s incredible ability to flood the market with tons of simultaneous carrier releases is key to the Galaxy S success. Google is reportedly allocating $500M to market and promote the new device(s). This would be equivalent to what Microsoft spent on the Xbox 360 when it launched.
