According to Masahiro Sakurai, the creator of the franchise, the reason behind not including the cutscenes in the upcoming title is due to players uploading them onto the internet, ultimately spoiling it for gamers. In an article published in Weekly Famitsu, Sakurai wrote, “Unfortunately, the movie scenes we worked hard to create were uploaded onto the internet. You can only truly wow a player the first time he sees [a cutscene]. I felt if players saw the cutscenes outside of the game, they would no longer serve as rewards for playing the game, so I’ve decided against having them.”
While these cutscenes will not be included in the game, Sakurai assured gamers that there will be trailers released for every newcomer who makes their debut in Super Smash Bros. for the Wii U, and that there will be a single-player campaign for both the Wii U and 3DS editions of the game.
