Today Microsoft announced the “commercial expansion” of its Surface tablets. The company has authorized PC Connection, PCM, CDW, CompuCom, En Pointe, Softchoice, Software House International, Insight and Zones in the U.S. to sell both Surface RT and Surface Pro tablets. With these products resellers will offer Microsoft’s extended warranty and accidental damage as well as onsite service and support, data protection and device recycling. The company says that over the next few months it will work to authorize commercial distributors and resellers in other countries around the world.
These authorized sellers will also be able to offer their own services to customers, services such as custom imaging, kitting and asset tagging. According to Microsoft the Surface tablets are currently available in 29 markets and in more than 10,000 physical stores around the world. This new expansion plan is likely to help the company move more units, sales of both the Surface Pro and Surface RT tablets haven’t exactly been spectacular. The company has been taking steps recently to boost sales, it has even started offering Surface RT tablets to schools at a discounted price.
