Facebook: The Board Game Concept Wants To Get You Off The Internet

Back in the day, computers and internet weren’t as readily available as they are today, and kids such as myself spent our time outdoors, and games were usually of the board game variety as well, such as Monopoly, Cluedo, MAD, and etc. Well in a bid to help people stave off their internet addition, graphic design Pat C. Klein has come up with a Facebook board game concept that aims to persuade people to stop using the internet “forever”. Of course we doubt that not using the internet forever is possible in today’s society, but to curb our usage will probably be a more attainable goal.

According to Klein, “As a young person living in the digital age, I feel as though the internet is affecting our ability to communicate with one another […] Research done by Stanford University has indicated that social networking sites like Facebook can increase loneliness, depression and insecurity. Facebook: The Board Game was created as a response to this. The idea is that instead of engaging with Facebook on your computer or phone, you can arrange to meet up with friends, have a few drinks and play in real life.” The game plays somewhat similar to other board games where you roll dice, land on a particular area which will trigger events.

Unfortunately Facebook: The Board Game is not real, but Klein hopes to get it funded and perhaps turn it into a reality. A rather novel idea and if you’d like to learn more, head on over to Klein’s website for the details. So, who else wouldn’t mind playing this game?
