Drone Crashes Near Major Highway In Florida

We know how sensitive the topic of drones are these days, especially we’re going to consider trusting them being food servers or delivering our pizzas without killing anyone in the process. As “fun” as those drones are, there are some scary ones out in the real world that have the ability of taking anyone out at a moment’s notice. One of these not-so-deadly drones has reportedly crash landed and exploded next to US 98 near Tyndall Air Force Base in Florida.

The drone crash resulted in a large cloud of black smoke being visible from US 98, which lead to a number of 911 calls from citizens claiming they’ve seen a plane spark up and catch on fire. The drone that crashed was confirmed by Tyndall to be a QF-4 drone which are meant to be used as targets for test weapons. Considering its crash landing, we think it’s safe to say whatever the base was testing works quite well.

Tyndall later confirmed the crash took place during take off and resulted in no personnel being injured, and as a result, portions of US 98 will remain closed for up to 24 hours as a precautionary measure due to fires originating from the drone’s crash.
